COUNTY AND RIVERS BOARD

Coqnty Council' and Rivers Board rates have been paid this year more freely than for several years past. The total pefcentage paid up to five o'clock yesterday afternoon — the final day for payment without the 10 per cent. penalty — amounted to 92 for the county and 90 for the Rivers Board ot the total rates. Of the rate of £55,000 struck by the Hawke 's Bay Couuty Council justover £50,000 has beeu paid, leaving only a little more than 8 per cent. of the rates still to be paid, The county clerk, Mr W. J. O'Connell, said this morning that this payment was the best for ten years past. The total rate struck by the Hawke's Bay Rivers Board was approximatoly £9000, and at the closing time yesterday payinents amounted to abou.t 1 £81000, or approximately 90 per cent, of tho total ratfe
