Decimal Coinage Drawbacks GlFT OF PUKETITIRI BUSH The monthly meeting of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce was held last eveiiing, the vice-president, Mr W. E. Bate, presiding over a moderate attendance of memberB. The Wellington Show Associatlon wrote informing the Chamber that at its show this year it intended to stage a Coronation Show from May 1 to May 15 at which it was desired that there should be representative exbibits of the products of the various districts. — It was decided to refer the matter to the Industries and Commerce Committee of the Chamber. It was decided to send a message of eympathy to the president, Mr H. W. C, Baird,' expressing hopes for his speedy recovery. "The Associated Chambers of Commerce wrote acknowledging receipt of ten Hastings chamber 's resolutions Tegarding the introduction of decimal coinage and pointing out that the first step in such a movement -would have to be made by Great Britain, and estimating thal the cost of such a change-over in the Dominion would be pver £1,000,000, due to the alteration of methods, including changes in type-writers, adding maehiues, etc. — The letter was received. It was decided to support a suggestion from the Associated Chambers that oue common date should be adopted in place of the present eight djffereut provincial anniversary days. Be|erence to the gift of an area of bush and grassland at Puketitiri to the nation by Mr and Mrs' F. Hutchinson, of Rissington, was made by Mr F. E. Smjth, who said that the gift was a splendid gesture and was most refreshing after the fight that had been going on for scenery preservation. The chamber passed a resolution tendering its respectful appreciation to Mr and Mrs Hutchinson of the magnificent gift, and also of the honour done to. the chamber in one of its members, Mr F. E. Smith, being appointed a member of the board of control
