Waipawa Meeting

The £rst meeting for the new year oi the Waipawa Women 's lnstitute took the form of a memorial gathering to plaee on reeord the deep and sincere sorrow of members at the passing of the late Mrs. Bibby, founder of the Waipawa brahch. Miss .Tull presided over a very largo attendauce of - members and visitors. Miss Jull expressed regret that since the last meeting Mrs Sawyer had left the district, and also pleasure that Miss Spencer, who had introduced the Tnetitute movemenfc into New Zealand, had been .remembered in the. New Year Bonours List. It was resolved that the .congratulations of the branch .bo forwarded to .Miss Spencer. . . _ A very beautiful hand-made Christmas caTd was received with grafiRcation from tho English link at Seaview. Members were advised that an exhibition of handicrafts would be held in Dannevirke in May. Messages of sympathy and expressing. regret at their iuability to be represented at the gathering were received from the Tikokino, Takapau, Porangahau, Hatuma, Wallingford and Onga Onga branches. Visitors wero ipesent from all parts of the district, including Mrs. R. Tod (Otane), Mrs. C. Wiliiams (Pukehou) and Mrs. McDonald ((South Canterbury). Mrs. E. Tod spolce feelingly of the great loss suffered by the Waipawa lnstitute and by tlie movement as a wholo in the death of Mrs. Bibby, and said that the greatest mark of - respcct which could be shown to her memory

was to carry wa the work as she would have wished it. The sentiments expressed by Mrs. Tod were endorsed by several other speakers. A piano solo was rendered by Mrs, Thackeray, and Mrs. Strang sang "Crossing the Bar, 5 ' accoinpanied on the piano by Mrs. Furminger. Mrs. Strang also played and sang the lnstitute Songg composed by Mrs. Bibby. A short address was also given by Mrs. McDonald, after which afternoon tea was served, the hostesses for the day being Mesdames Adeane, J. Avison, Boatwood, Dalton, Thackeray and Miss K. Avison.
