Under the aeading of new intermediate schools, Gisborne and Hastings are the only two towns mentioned, and already plans have been drawn up for a £34,000 building for the Gisborne Intermediate fcjchooi. It is known that a similar building is suggested for Hastings. The rebuilding of the Hastings Central School is a matter that has been under review t'or a number of years, strong representations having been made on numerous occasions, and actually a definite promise was made by a former Minister of the Crown that the echool, which is the oldest m Hastings, would be rebuiit. In this year's list of woi;ks the Hastings Central School occupies second piace, the one work ahead being -the remodelling of the -infants' school attached to the Gisborne Central School. The following is the list of proposed works submitted to the department: in the order of urgency and merit: — - New Schools. — Hangaroa, Otawhao Eoad, Herbertville, Marewa Bloek, Napier. Intermediate Schools. — Gisborne Intermediate School, Hastings Intermediate School. Rebuilding or Remodelling of Schools. —Gisborne Central (infants), Hastings Central, Maraekakaho, Tokomaru Bay, Norsewood, Te Karaka, Clive, Mangapapa, Waerenga-a-liika, Te Hapara, Matawai, Havelock North, Waipiro Bay. Teachers' Residences. — East Cape (movable), Whatatutu, Mihiwhetu (movable). Manual Training Buildings. — New buildings at Wairoa, Te Karaka, Tolaga Bay. Additions to Schools.' — Kaiti (if required when Intermediate School is opened). Shelter Sheds, Etc. — -Bartletts (shelter shed) , Maharahara (shelter shed) . • •
