Taradale Rates Coming In Very Slowly BOARD'S M0NTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Taradale Town Board was held last niglit. Present: Messrs J. Williamson (chairman), W. H. C. Howard, J. Wainscott, J. A. Wilkinson, J. Gilmour, ancl F. O. I Anderson. Leave of absence was ' granted Mr G. Webb. In regard to the attendance of the standard V. and VI. children from Taradale at the Napier Intermediate School, the Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Fraser, advised that he would carefully consider the .board 's representations when dealing with the matter. Mr Wilkinson remarked that from the Pres>3 report, the Hawke's Bay Education Board was rather severe in its comments on the action taken by the Town Board; what the Town Board objeeted to was that attendance should he compulsory. The clerk, Mr W. G. Jarvis, reported that the current year's rates were coming in very slowly, but he anticipated that there would be a rush to avoid the additional . 10 • per cent. penalty. It would be necessary for the board to write o££ rates amounting to about £57, owing to propefties being taken over by the State Advanees Office. The first mortgage in connection with the board 's housing loan has been repaid. It was decided that the hoard's offices shall ,be closed on Saturdays, commeneing from to-morrow week. Complaint was made of boxthorn overhanging the frontages of certaiii, sections. It was decided that all such hedges must be kept trimmed.
