Drowned When Fishing SWEPT OFF ROCK
(By Telesraph-
WELLINGTON, This Day. The eoroner, Mr Gilbertson, held an inquest to-day into the death of Thomas Alexander Jones, a dentist, of Petone, and found that he was swept off Boom Rock, Makara, when fishing and drowned. The evidence showed that he got down on to a low ledge of rock to recover his line, but before he could get back a hxxge wave washed right over the rock, carrying him off. He managed to get hold of a line thrown out by a companion, who then made for a spot where he could assist, but when he got there Mr Jones had disappeared. Mr. Jones was a good swimmer, but was hampered by an oilskin overcoat and other clothing. The waves were so severe that it would have been suicidal for any of the otlxers to have entered the water. The fatality occurred on Jaxiuary 9 and the body was found on. January 31.
