ROAD-SURFACING

Good Progress With Hastings Programme A substantial portion of this season'e programme of road-surfacing in Hastings has been completed to date by th* contractor, bitumen having been laid ou portions of at least nine streets as provided for in the schedule of works, So far the work has been done on the western side of the railway line, the streets receiving attention being Knight street, Nelson street, Whitehead road, Gray's road, Pepper street, Charles street, Lascelles street, Fitzroy avenne and Southampton street. A start hast been made with the bitumen surfacing of Jervois street, and in the next few weeks streets on. th© eastern side of the railway line will receive attention. There is a fairly considerable length of roadway to be treated in this part of the borough
