YEAR'S IMPRISONMENT

Hp was further charged with the theft of £25, the property o£ Beginald Hope, a separator bowl and paxts, val* ued at £25, the property of the Lis- . ter Separator Co., and a suit of eloth'ee valued at £l 15/-, the property of S. Hariip. Defendant pleaded guilty and elected to be dealt with summarily. Evidence of the alleged thefts wai given by Detective-Sergeant L. B. J. Revell. The car waa taken from Te Awamutu, and when recovered at Hast-* •ings it had been damaged, he said. The sum of £25 was stolqn from • Public Works Department Camp on th© Taupo road. The accused had • pre* vious reeord, having served two years. 1 * You are quite young," said the Magistate, in addressing the accused. "You ' have a list, and different treatment has been tried. You have had probation on two occasions; then you went to Borstal. You were not reformed. " The accused was sentenced to thre* months' imprisonment on tne car-con-version charge, the seiitence to be con« current with the other sentences. On the second and third charges six months' imprisonment was imposed on each count, the terms to be cumulative, and on the fourth charge the accused was convieted and discharged. An order for the return of the goods was also made.
