Emergency Action Due to Motor Strike
CONFERENCE FAILS
(Eeceived 10, 8.45 a.m.) DETEOIT, Feb 9. The motor strike conference adjourned early this morning until tonight. It was believed earlier to be on the verge of collapsing when General Motors issued a statecnent expressing doubt that anything was likely to be accomplished and reiterated its determination not to be coerced into permitting the union'to be the sole bargaining agency. It is stated that the offer to hold a secret ballot of all employees on the latter question was rejected by the union. Meanwhile the Gity Commission at Flint declared that an emergency existed and voted the Mayor, Mr. Bradshaw, the power of a virtual dictator with compfcte control of 700 special police. Ironically, Mr. Bradshaw is an employee of the Buick Company.
