No Need For Concern by Settlers outlet to hastings The recent revocation of the NajderRissington highway via Puketapu; and Apley in favour of the Newstead route' has oeen viewed with concern by a number of Puketapu settlers. Speaking at yesterday's meeting of the Hawke's Bay Coxxnty Council, Mr W. Turnex said that in view of the heavy cost of maintaining the road , through Newstead, the riding would uudoubtedly benefjt as the result of the change. He was satisfied thafc the settlers in no way would suffer, as the road through Puketapu and Apley, would not be neglected. Mr Turner stated that the sealing of the road from Taradale to Puketapu was a very necessary work and that to alford an outlet for the settlers to Hastings a good. road from Puketapu to Omahu across the swamp was necessary. After the meeting, Mr E. H. Beamish said that he recognisal the growing importance of ,the swamp road and hoped that it could be given an application of foundation red metal, thus making it into a substaniial road.
