N.Z. BUTTER BOXES

— Presf Aqsoriation.)

One Type to be Eliminated . new regulation

(By Telegrapb

WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Minister of Agriculture (Hon. Lee Maxtin) anncmuced to-day he had approved of the drafting of a regulation which would amend the dairy produce general regulations to the effect that beginning on August 1 next the "standard" type of butter box would be deleted and leave "sub-standard' ' and ("saranac" as types which may thereafter be used as containers for butter for esport. "It has been considered that for some time there have been too many types of * butter boxes. The difficulties of obtaining adequate suppiias during the current and preceding seasons have made this position more manifest, ' the Minister said. "The reduction of the number of types to two by the abandoning of the l"standard" box offers a number of advantages amongst which are the following: — (1) Saving of a large quantity of white pine timber annually; (2) simplifying the position for sawmillers and boxmakers as regards the thickness of boards for use in boxmaking. For the next season's boxes only two thicknesses will xequire to be ordered instead of three for the current season. (3) The reduction in the percentage of broken boxes as the standard box being unwired is more prone to damage than the wired containers."
