ELWORTHY — HERR1CK WEDDING Beautiful goyvns, lovely flowers and an air of happiness made the wedding of Hester Mary Herrick and John Churchill Elwortliy one which will be long remembered by all the guests. The bride is the elder daughter oi Mr and Mrs Erank Herrick, of Tautane, Herbertville, and the bridegroom the younger son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Elworthy, Holme Btation, South Canterbury. The bridegroom was formerly . aide-de-camp to the Governor-General, Viscount Bledisloe. In St. John's Cathedral, Napier, where the wedding was solemnised, the flowers were beautifully arranged. Large jars of pastel-shaded hydrangeas were placed at intervals along the aisle and crystal bowls of rosebuds were arranged on either side of the altar. A bow of white satin ribbon and a rosebud .marked the guests' pews. The Bishop of 'Waiapu, the Bt. Eev, H. W. Williams, ofi&ciated at the cerc: mony. and was assisted by Dean Broeidehurst. Mr P. W. Tombs presided atthe. organ. The bride made a lovely picture whon she entered the church with her father and her flva 'maids. She wore a gown of mother-of-pearl peau d' ange satin with a very long rounded train inset in a" V shape. In front the skirt was f ashioned to continue npi from the waist in a Y-shape to the neek, slight gathering on each side of this making an efl'eetive flnish. At the back the •jorsage was swathed across and continued to torm the sash at the back only. The long sleeves were given fullness with pleats at the shoulders and wero tight-fitting at the wrists and finished with tiny satin-covered buttons. Her veil of finest tulle was arranged across the back of the head with a pleated frill and in front with a halo of tiny real flowers and fell softly over her gown to torm a second train. Sho carried a shower bouquet of water-lilios in off- white tonixigs, stephanotis, aud orchids arranged with maidenhair fern and finished with a bow of off-whito satin ribbon. The bride ^ore her parerits' gift, a necklace of p«a.rls, and also the giffc froin the bridegroom, a wrist watch soi with diamonds. A most unusnal but very attractive shade of BrittHny rose rippled chiffon was worn by all five 'maids who wero the Misses Una Herriek, sister of the bride (chief), Jnlia Horrick, cousin oi thc bride, PhilHpa Eiddiford, Audroy Ormond and Diaua Elworthy (Timaru), eousin of tho bridegroom. Their gowns were exactly alike, beiug fashioned with a softly swathed corsago looped in the front and continulng down the deep V decolletage at the back, ,the waist being finished with n wide soft sash. Yery short draped «leeves were finished with a tiny bow of the same matorial. The skirts were i very full below the knees and wero edged with a double tow of cording which made an effective finish. Eacb. maid earried a round bouquet composed of off-white water lilies and maidenhair fern with satin ribbons, and i
headbauds of tiny real flowers In che same tonings as their gowns encircled their heads. The bridegroom 's gift to each maid was a Prencn petit-poim powder compact. , Mr Anthony Elwortny, the oridegroom's cousin, carried out the dutios of Dest man and the ushers at tlio church were Lieutenant Terry Herricli and Messrs Jasper and Dennis HerricK. The beautiful home and gardens oi che bride 'a aunt, Miss Euth Herrick, Lightuouse road, Napier, were a lovely setting for the wedding receptiou, wnich was attended by about 300 guests from all parts of New Zealand. fiuge jdca'randa and oleander trees, a mass of blue and pink blossoms, surrounded the lawns, where scood a large marquee for the wedding breakfast. This- was very jolly and the toast 1 o the bride and bridegroom was proposed t>y a very old friend, Mr Arthur Duncan, of Masterton. The guests were received by Mr aud Mrs E. L. Herrick, assisted by Mr and Mrs Arthur Elworthy and Miss Euth Herrick. Mrs Herrick wore a very smart gown of navy chiii'on fiowered with white, tho long sleeves being finely pleated from shoulder to. wrist and caught into a very nqrrovv cufi:. The waistline waa pointed in front and slightly shirf ed, a large navy flower finishing the neck m front. Her hat was of navy tagel straw and she -wore a shoulder spray of delL cate orchids and ferns. Mrs Arthur Elworthy 's Erench mode] gown was of " black ^riple mnon with yoEe of mignon blue, hand-faggotted al Ihe hecK. and on the three-quarter sieeves. The belt was clasped in front with a diamond-shaped bucide.set with brilliants and she wore a blaek ninon swagger coat. A large ,.chrysanthemum of oiack cire satin ribbon trimmed tho front of her black 'ballibuntal picture hat and she carried a bouquet of shadea pink carnations and rosebuds with maidenhair fern. Miss Euth Herriek wore a froek oi navy quilted cioque with large silvev roses at each side of the neck aud clasping the belt in front. Her navy ielt hat had a swathed' band of veloui in front finished with a bow and sho wore a shoulder spray of green and cream flowers, Aii the floral work and the churcn decorations wore carried out bv the Elue Bird Plorists. After the xeception the young coupie received a very rousing send-oit' when they left by car for tneir honeymoon in the north, Mrs John Eiwortiiy /travelled in a model frock or navy crepe de soir patterned in deep cream, the short sleeves finished wiui cream cuifs to match the collar. The belt was clasped in front with a buekle or retl patent leather. With this she wnre a plain navy taimred coat and very smart navy toque with the new high cxown.
