Men Flung Out of Car in Collision With Train 0NE TAKEN TO HOSPITAL

PALMERSTON N., TMs Day. \By the narrowest of marginSj two men in a car escaped death at the Monrad street railway crossing shortly after mid-day yesterday. They drove on to the line in front of the swifttravelling NeW Plymouth express, the fcngine hitting the car near the rear .wheel and sweeping it into a d.rain, where it came to rest extensively flamaged and with its bonnet against a telegraph pole. Both oceupants wero fiung out of the vehicle, and this prohably saved their lives. The driver of the car, Mr Basil Leige Corry, of 212 Prineess street, sustained only slight injuries and was able to proceed to Hs home, but Mr Jack Davis, of 15 Waldegrave street, a passenger in the car/ was not so fortnnate and was injured. He was in the front seat •longside the driver but nearer thu •agifle. He was conveyed to the hoapital by the Free Ambulance and was found to have suffered abrasions to tho faco and legs, with shock. The accident was witnessed by Mrs A. E. dbnes, who lives adjacent to the line. She said thal the car turned off the main rOad into the hollow by the crossing almost ont of sight of the train, and appeared abont to stop.
