Indebtedn^ss on Waikoko Property * ■ W RETA1LERS & H0LIDAYS A meeting of the executive committep of the Hawke's Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held at the Tomoana Showgrounds this morning, the president, Mr J. H. Absolom, presiding. On the motion pf Mr J. H. MacN>ven it was decided that the profits from the society's farm should be devoted to a sinking fund to pay off the indebtedness on the Waikoko property. "We are spending money on improvements, but we are making no provision for the mortgage on the property,'' Mr MacNivqn pointed out in making his proposal. A letter was received from Mr W.. B. White, Takapau, stating that he had had a portrait painted of his Royal champion bull Terrace Abua Pal and that, as h© had been exhibiting at the society's shows for a number of years and had always received the very best treatment, he would be pleased if tho society would accept the painting to hang in the office 011 the showgrounds. "I wish more breeders would do the same," said the chairman in mov ing that the offep should be accepted and that the secretary ^hould express the society's thanks to Mr White. "We want to get portraits of the animals." Mr Absolom also mentioned that photos of past presidents and other people connected with the society were also wanted. * The secretary of the Napier Retailers' Association wrote advising that the Napier retailers had resolved to observe the Anniversary statutory holiday on People's Day of the Spring Show, and that, in making this decision his exeeutive had instructed him to state that it was largely influenced by its desira to assist the society. "This is not only a good thing for the society, but it also brings town and country togethor," remarked Mr Absolom in moving that the society should express its thanks to the NaNapier Retailers' Association. Mr A. M. Robertson proposed that che Hastings Retailers' * Association should be approached to. see whether it could fall into line with Napier, the motion being carried. It was decided to write thankiag Mr D. J. Holden for the donatiou of a cup for the New Zealand champiouship chop in the axemen's events and Mr O. H. Bunker for the donation of a cup m the dog section. The appointment of Messrs J. HLange and D. T. Sinclair, Napier, as judges in the sporting and other bree'ds sections respectively in the dog classes at the Autumn Show were approved. Messrs G. N. Bell, Karere, and D. Anderson, Carterton were approved for the poultry classes. Accounts totalling £98 17/11 were passed for payment.
