NORTHERN RACING Prespects for Matamata Meeting F1ELDS REVIEWED
(By Telegraph-
AUCKLAND, This Day, The acceptances for Saturday's rgces af Matamata, are very good indeed^, very few horses havxng declined their engagements. The meeting is' really a hack one, with a couple of short events put on for the open performances. Betting will be conducted on the win and place system. Without excepti.on the Matamata Cup haB provided excellent tests and the field is well up to standard. Sergia raced badly at Takapuna, where the conditions were all against her, and in addition she might nofc have been ather best after an interrupted preparation. Therefore some of those farther down may be preferred, and the possibiiities include Huskie, Kespectful, Sunny Downs, Sandy Dix, Racette and Royal Nation, while Modern Maid and Roxy may appreciate their lighfc imposts. Respectful won impreesively on Saturday and he should be prominent, despite his re-handicap, while Sunny Downs should now be in a position to run better than at Thames. Royal Danoe, who ran two good races against Gold Boa at Trentham, heads the list in both the Waharoa and Walton Handicaps and he should run well. Boughal revealed all his pace at Thames' and now he should be nearing his. best. Prince Acre has not raced for a long timefi but Lornacre is a very likely sort, while Mungacre, Solaria, Bellkyrian and Winlona have chances in the Waharoa Handicap. In this race Boughal is favouroured most. While Lornacre is a possibility in the Waharoa Handicap, the extra distanoe will be all in her favour in the Walton Handicap, in which she will meet improving gallopers in Miss Lu and Gay Broney. Other prospects are Wait and See, Sergia^ Wahine Reihi, Winlona and Keith Lu. Lornacre and Miss Lu rather stand out here. Son of the goil, an Australian-bred qolt, who finished second at Te Rapa three months ago at his first start, reads exceptionally well placeed in the maiden Putaruru Stakes, run at weight for age. Calcutta reads best of the Hurdles field, while Raepata's second at Ellerslie last Saturday under difficulties, points to his being prominent in the Hinuera Handicap, for non-winners. The ather hack events should see Professional and Trouvaille improying. The form horses for to-morrow are the following. — 12.10, Tirau Hurdles. — Calcutta Spearcourt, Lady Ruler, 12.50, Hinuera Handicap. — Raepata, dooneen, Miss Musketoon. 1.30/ Waharoa Handicap. — Boughal, Lornacre, Bellkyrian. 2.15, Matamata Hack Cup. — Respectful, Sunny Downs, Sandy Dix. 3.0, Railway Hack. — Professional, Bonnie Song, Cappy (or May Song). 3.45, Putaruru Stakes. — Son of the Soil, Raceline, Awatea Princess, 4.30 Walton Handicap. — Lornacre, Miss Lu, Gay Broney. 5.15, Okoroire Hack. — Trouvaille, La Femme Noire, Bonnie Song.
