POLO PRACTICE

Difficult Conditions on Satnrday Playing conditions were not ideal for the practice play by members of the Hawke's Bay Polo, Club on the Hastings racecourse on Saturday afternoon. Owiug to recent rains the clover had made exceptional growth, causing the* playing-area to be rather slow, and in consequenee the ball would not rise at all well. Under the circumstances the players were unable to give their best display. The ponies were all in good fettle and for tbe remainder oi the season some very fast play is to be indulged in. A total of 19 players participated in the practice play, each player taking part in from six to eight chukkas. It is anticipated that both players and ponies will be up to a high standai'd in the next few weeks and will be able to give a good aecount of themselves at the jannual tournament to be held at Hastings from March 8 ro Uarch 13 v
