| TAUPO, Last Night. Diverse opinions have been expressed by anglers this season on the I condition and quantity of trout in the Taupo district, but reeent catches indicate that the fishing is better than has been experieniced in the past ten years. With the. unsettled weather over the I holidays period and strong westerly winds since then conditions havo not j been of the best, but over the past two ! weeks, when the weather has been j more settled, catches have improved. ! Mr. T. Gardiner, of New Plymouth, who has fished in the Taupo arca for a 'number of ycars, was fly-fishing at -the mouth of the Waitahanui stream yestsrday morning, . and his catch included a fine ten-oupnder. On the rpovious day ho had landed several fish J over 61bs., and he is most enthusiastic ! over the results of his visit. I It is also the opinion of several local j fishermen that the fish aer more ad- ! vanced this year than usual, as is evident by catches in the Waikato river, which have been consistent, with an occasional large trout up to 91bs.
