All applications must be lodged with the Couft hy Mofiday, February 1, and there has been a lasthiinute rush in Hastings from persons affected by the new legislation. , Lawyers have had an exceptionaliy busy period in their efforts to deal With the fiood of applications on whieh they have been instructed to aCt. Yet there are still a number of people whib have delayed their applications and apparently dd not fealise the fact that, ufii©ss they make application, they wili not be eutitled to receive further reiief. The atnount of work involved in bfepariiig the appiibation is cohsiderable, and to obtaiii all the variotis details fequii'ed, the legal difices haVe had tb earry out ektciiSiVe reseatch, meanifig mucn additiofial work. Althoiigh many applicatiofiss haVe b'Cefi filed, if is fiot expected that all of these will be heard by th© Adjustment Comxnission, as fiegbtiations bfetween the parties cbilCferned will enable a settleinent to be effCcted, and obviat© the fiecessity of a hearing. While the Adjustment doinmissiofi has power under the present legislation to make orders in respect of applications, appeals from its judgments may he made to the Court of Review. This, it is linderstood revferses the procedilr© fdlloWed in fortfief legislation by whieh the Commission made recommendations only to the Court of Review.
