NORTHERN NOTES

On Takapuna Runners Sergia, who is temporarjly located at Te Awamutu, ricked herself sliglitly on the eve of the Ngaruawahia meeting, but is now making steady progress towards recovery. All going well i she will be produced at Ellerslie, in which event she will have to be conceded prospects in the Plate events at the fixture. \ . • • • Black Musk. • Black Musk is tke type of likely improver who should pay watching in pending engagements. On the second day of the Thames meeting he beat all but Madelon in the Turau Stakes. He is to make his next appearance in the Trial Stakes on the first day of the Takapuna meeting. ; • • • Lornacre. Nothing has been working more attractively of lafe tkan "Lorhacre and it will not be on the score of condition if he fails to make his presence felt in engagements at Ellerslie. Lornacre usually does well on the Auckland i course and he will not be without a strong following when he goes into the starter' s hands this week. # -» * Kanapa. Kanapa has been racing consistently but unluckily in recent starts and should make a good showing in jumping engagements at the Takapuna meeting. Since the Auckland summer carnival he has been moving along pleasantly in his preparation and is looking • fit and well for racing ahead. • * # Round Up. . Round Up has been working well at Elerslie over the past several weeks and should strip in fine fettle for engagements at tlie . Takapuna meeting. On Friday he is nominated for the open sprint' and with the light impost ot 7.8 he will have to be treated with every respect. Over a mile on the final day of the Auckland summer carnival he made an exhibition of the opposition in the Grey Handicap. • * • Lagoon. Lagoon skaped well in her engagements at the Thames, winning well over a mile on either day. The lVlusketoon mare appears among the acceptances for the first day of the Takapuna meeting, and as winning form is good form, she should do well in her races. Last Saturday in winning the County Handicap she carried 9.11, so "that she is not overburdened with 8.'3 in " Friday's mile and a quarter. • « • Vera Acre. After winning K well on the first day at Thames Vera Acre failed to repeat the measure in the Hack Cup, in which she was solidly supported. However, she should not be lightly ruled out on account of that failure, as she seldom looked better than at* "present. She is to make the trip to Ellerslie and will bear keeping in mind- for engagements there. • • ■ Dragon Moth. Pukekohe stables produced a good sort In Dragon Moth In the third day of the Auckland summer carnival, when, over the deciding stages of the two-year-old Midsummer Handicap she gave nothing else a chance. She is to make a reappearance in the juvenile event at Ellerslie on Friday, but will not be at such remuneratiye odds on this occasion. • • • Dark Shadow. Dark Shadow has been' working along quietly on the tracks at Te Rapa and if taken to Ellerslie for the first day of the Takapuna meeting he will not be without a strong fpUowing on the tnachines. While th© Auckland Cup distance proved beyond his capabilities, he has proved himself up to a mile and a quarter and when one recalls the convincing nature of his success on the first day of the Waikato spring meeting liis prospects of repeating tlie dose in the Takapuna Cup would appear bright. ■ # • • A Likely fmprover. Among likely improvers noted at the Thames meeting was the Little Engl&nd — Chancit four-year-old Bryce Street, a fine upstanding gelding, who finished close up on either day. He was looking a trifle above himself at Parawai and, as racing there should serve to' ett'ect improvement in his condition, he may do better at Ellerslie where on the second day he appears among the ehtry for the Moana Handicap.
