GOOD PROGRAMME

"The Barb.")

Interesting Events at Takapuna REVIEW OF FIELDS

(By

A. very interesting programme will come up for deeisioh at the summer meeting of the Takapuna Jockey Club which will be held on the Ellerslie racecourse to-morrow and Saturday. In most cases there is recent form to aot as a guide for speculators and no doubt, as has been the case elsewliere, there will be a big increase in the machine investments. The hurdle race has drawn the smallest field of the day, but all six runners have been shaping well in their training of late. The top-vveight, Tudor, has proved his class and, as he won in the late spring at Waikato, he will find favour with the public despite his 11st. 91b. . . The Trial Stakes will find a big field facing the starter. Orefield, Raepata, Survoy, School Song, Chief Emerald, Ebb and Flow, Tidewaiter and Jan Ridd have all shown some form that will attract attention to them. The six-furlong hack race, the Ferry Handicap, will bring a very even lot to the po«t. Paso Robles, Fleetwind, Yalrent, Square Acre, High Star and Valise should furnish a stirring contest. The Takapuna Cup, with ten runners, is the most interesting event of the day and recent performances will doubtless influence the betting towards Mazir, Dark Shadow, Lagoon, Gay Talkie, Shy (seeond to Martara at Wellington), Kelly and Con Fuoco. The two-year-olds will be. catered for by the Calliope Handicap. Of the seven aeceptors Bachelor King, Nuclei, Airam and Dragon Moth have all been returned winnera, the latter in her only previous start, which was at the last Auckland meeting. The Wynyard Plate will see the best ' ' hacks ' 5 of the Auckland distriet lined up, including Professional (disappoiuting at Thames), Kilonsoa, Sergia, Quadroon (third to Essex and Trench Fight in the G.N, Derby), Surella, Tosh, Cappy, Palustre and Rollicker. The second leg of the double, the Zealandia Handicap, will bring an even lot of sprinters together. " Impasto is said to be galloping at top form, while Triune, Galilee, Tybalt, Crooning, Sweet Rose, Armacourt, Mungaere, Lornaere and Round Up all know how to foot it over a short course. The first day 's programme will be brought to a close with the Rangitoto Handicajp run over a mile and under hack conditions. Useful sorts engaged include Winlona, Vera Acre, Respectful and ICing Theo, but even the balance are not "out of the hunt.,, The following may carry most monetary support in their respective races: — Orewa Hurdles: Tudor, Merry Lap and High Quality. Trial Stakes: Raepata, Orefield and Chief Emerald. Ferry Handicap: Fleetwind, Paso Robles and Square Acre.
