Annual Gathering Held at Waipukurau NAPIER'S MESSAGE

(WAIPUKUEAU, This Day. The Hawke 's Bay branch of the N.Z. DX Club held its annual meeting at, Woods' Tea-rooms, Waipukurau, last eveuing. A novel item was tiie con- [ veyance of good wislies from the Napier branch over the air, the message being received at 8 p.ni. on a receiving set temporarily installed for the purpose. . Station 2ZH, Napier, also sent greetings and good wishes. In the absence of the president, Mr V. King, Mr B. Mathieson occupied tbe chair. The question of the running of the V.K.3 inter-club competition was the subject, of considerable discussion. Messrs Mathie and GriflSths being called upon to answer a number of questions about existing rtiles and the proposed new rules governing the competition. Speaking on the social-service activities, the chairman said that in Waipukurau two of the ciub's members were also members of the New Zealaud emergency radio corps and, iu the event of a disaster overtaking their locality aud interrupting communications, would immediately establish communication with outside districts over the air, They also kept in touch with the automobile assoeiations, and- frequently advised them of bad road conditions. ELECTION OF OFFICEES. The following officers were elected: — Chairman, Mr V. L. King; vice-chair-man, Mr B. Mathieson; secretarytreasurer, Mr L. Mathie; assistant secretary, Mr W. E. Grover; committee, Messrs A. Annand, L. Grifiiths, F. Grover and C. Warren; auditor, Mr B. .Mathieson; lecturer, Mr L. Blackie. The following toasts were- honoured: The King (Mr L. E. Griffiths); The UX Olub (Mr B. Mathieson); TheVisitors (Mr A. C. Holmes'— Mr C. Woodward); Club Members and Competition Winners (Mr V. King — Mr W. Grover); Absent and Country Members (Mr L. Blaclde — Mr Mathie); The Pfe»s (Mr A. Annand); The Secretary (Mr M. W. Ohappel — Mr Mathie) ; The Ohairman (Mr A. C. Holms). , In calling upon Mr Blackie fo propose the toast "Absent a'nd Country Members,"- the chairman stressed the great assistance given by Mr Blackie in his lectures. Mr Blackie, in proposing the toast, toped both town and country members would assist in the establishing and juilding of a transmitting and receiving set, so that the club would be able to .issist in the work of the Emergency Wireless Corps as a club unit. He stressed the excellent work dorie and great enthusiasm of the club 's preaiilent.
