HASTINGS BATHS No One Under 12 Will He Admitted EPIDEMIC PRECAUTION Children under tfie age of twelve ar# debarred from using any of the swjinming baths in Hastings because of the iufautile paralysis epidemic, until the I esti ictions are removed by the T mltli authorities. This action follows a notification received by the Hastings BSrmign Health Inspector, Mr C. Carrell, from the Health Department, WellipgThe letter received from Wellington states : "Ifc appears that- different age restrictions are :u forc© in different localities concerning the admission of children to swimming-bathg. . It iH recommended for the present, in all districts where cases of infantile paralysis are not prevalent, that children under the age of twelve be excluded and that no restrictions should be efi» forced above that age." All the Hastings school committeeg controlling swimming-haths have been notified of this decision, and the caretakers cbncerned have 'been requeated to see that the Health Departuvent' g recommendation is enforced. If the children wish to go swimming at all, they will have to go either to thc sea or to the rivers, The various Hastings swimming clubs will not be affected to any grekt extent as far as their carnivals are concerned, according to inquiries made by the "Herald-Tribune" this morning. The competitive swimmers in the club teams are mostly over the age >f twelve, and only a few jiiuiors in jach club team will be affected by the hau. Why the action of the Health Department has been so long delayed wae the question raised by an official of one swimming club. in diseussing tho ban with a reporter this morning. "To • wait so long before any action was taken is very hard to under- - stand," he remarked. "However, now the ; decision has been made we will have to eomply with the health Department' s ruling." * — — — ^
