A BETTING RAID
Detention of Vicar IN VILLAGE POST OFFICE During the hearing of a case at Broxton, Gheshire, it was revealed that a vlcar had been " detained " iby polioe ln a bettlng raid. MIss LouiBa E. Madeley, tho village postmlstress at Hargrave, was charged with uslng the premlses for hctting, and a pollce-sergeanfc gave evidence that when the raid cn the post-oftlce was carried out, all oalle;s were detained. Six children who callcd while tho search was being made were detained, and wher the sohoolmistress went to take the children back to school, she was also detained. Later the vicar, the Rev. C. G. A. Preston, arrived io see what was happenlng, and h-\ too, was ('etained. The case was dlsmissed, and charges of assisting to carry on a bettlng hn*\- ' ness against Meredith Willi?.;iia and his wife -Ann, unc-le end aunt of tha poatmistress, wc- ^ also dismissed.
