Plan to Hold Fight in Berlin GONSULTING HITLER
--Air Mail.)
LONDON, Jan. 8. Max Schmelin'g, the- former heavyweight champion -of the world, is anxious to have his world title iight against J. J. Braddoek staged at the OiympiC Stadium in Berlin, instead of in the Long Island Bowl in New York, states Keuter. The date would still be June 3. On arrival in Berlin he will eeek an ihte'rview with the Fuhrer, and put his proposals before him. Schmeling haa" already approached Mike Jacohs, of the Twentietb. .Century Club, ahd Jimmy Johnston, of the Madison Square Garden, the promoters of the fight, and is reported to have offered Braddoek £5.0,0,00 guarantee and adequate compensation for the promoters. Only Gene Tunney and Jack Dempsey have ever received more than this sum for. a.singla fight.- • • - The chief trouble as far as Braddoek is concerned is his inability to take the gate money out of the country, and this is one of the questions Schmeling will put to Herr Hitler. The Olympic Stadiuhx holds over 100,000 spectators, and should easily be filled for a world title fight; 88,000 is the largest number of spectators that have ' ever attended a fight in- New York. Thia was on the occasion of the Joe Louis-Max Baer fight in the Yankee Stadium. Schmeling is at present en route for Germany in' the Bremen. He flxed up the date for his fight with Braddoek only last week.
