Mr A. Christie left for New Plymouth by car this morning. Mr and Mrs Roddick, Hastiugs, are visiting Gisborne. Miss Richmond, who has been staying with Mrs Lowry North, Havelock North, i3 now visiting Gisborne. Lord Balfour of Burleigh, a director of the National Bank of New Zealand, aeeompanied by Mr P. R. M. Henna, one of the bank's inspectors, is making a tour of the Sonth Island branches of th'e bank. Mr and Mrs D. B. McRae, of Napier, were accorded a vote of condolence on the death of their son Laurie by membors oi' the exeeutive of the Hawke's Bay Swimining Centre at last night 's meeting, on the motion of the seeretary, Mr R. H. Miles. Laurie McRae, aged eight, met his death by drowning at Westshore last week. Miss Dorothy Ramsay, Waiohild, Taradale, gained a number of successes against strong competition at the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band Sports. Miss Ramsay was first in the North Island Reel o' Tulloeh, first in the open.Sean Truibhas, second in the Highland reel, second in swords »and second in jig. The following day Miss Ramsay won four firsts at the Waipukurau Show for Scottish dances. Captain A. Bongard, M.C., N.Z.S.C., at present adjutant to the 1st Battalion of the Hawke's Bay Regiment and Area Officer for Area 7A, is to sueeeed Captain G. M. MeCaskill, N.Z.S.C., as staff officer in charge of No. 6 Regirnental District at Palmerston North. Captain McSaskill, who has been transferred to Napier, has been *stationed at Palmerston North since October, 1928. The move is to be completed by April 15.
