Rescued Youth From Drowning

CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 23. Award3 have been made by the Royal Humane Society as follow: — John Michael Bray, aged 16J, pupil, of Napier, framed certificate. ' Samuel MeLernan, aged 25, of Gisborne, letter of commendation. George Whyte, aged 35, of New Brighton, letter of * commendation. Bray rescued a youth from drowning in the sea near Napier and attempted artificial respiration till a doctor arrived. Mr MeLernan rescued a man from the .sea at Gisborne when a boat capsized, having a particularly hard struggle in the surf. Mr Whyte dived into the Avon from a moving motor lorry to rescue a little girl from drowning.
