Dinghy Capsizes in Leaving Disabled Yacht TRAGIC FISHING CRUISE

TAURAJNUrA, jan. za. About 11 o'clock this morning a party of six men set out in the keel yacht Rosina fitted with an auxiliary engine, to fish outside the harbour on the ocean side of Mount Maunganui. After they had been fishing near Rabbit Island, off the Mount beach, fhe mainsail blew oUt and, finding the engine not powerful enough to manage the yacht against the heavy westerly blowing, the men decided on an attempt to get ashore in a dinghy, which capsized. Alex Leslie, and D. Boyes, of Tauranga, L. Donoghue and C. E. Mandel, of Glen Afton, swam back to the yacht. Maurice O 'Connell and Geo. Best, also of Glen Afton, clung to the dinghy. The party aboard the yacht started the engine and attempted to reach the two clinging to the dinghy, who were unable to swim. A rope fouled tho propellor and the attempt failed. Eventually both lost their hold and Mr Best was washed ashore by tlie breakers at the Mount beaeh. SustaineA «efforts to resnscitate him failed. A littie later Mr O'Gonnell's body came ashore. The dead bodies of the two young men t^ere brought to town by a launell which had been despatched to the scene of the accident immediately the news was received. The Harbour Board launch Reo also went down and towed the disabled yacht to town with the other four aboard. The mainsail was seen to be in tibbons.
