Ruahine Gain High Honours MUNRO CUP WON The ilrst pipe-band contest of the Wellington — Hawke 's Bay Centre of the New Zealand Pipe Bands' Association was held in Palmerston North, in a howling gale The Ruahine (Dannevirke) pipers emerged with flying colours. Thev gained the Mnnro Cup for mdst points in the quickstep and test competitions and also won the drum majors' display of marching and manoeuvring. The bands atesembled in the Square and marehed to the showgrounds where the events were stagcd. The first event was the quickstep, in two sections, marching^ and music. Wellington Caledonian fron the latter section. but Ruahine were well ahead in the marching, and came out first in the aggregate. In the test selection Ruahine were seeond to Wellington Caledonian, the points being respeetively 87 and 85. For the drum majors' display, Ruahine were awarded 96 points, f ollowed by Manawatu Scottish with 86 and Wellington Caledonian 71. The marching of the Ruahine pipers was outstanding, and called forth spirited applause. Ruahine 's pipe-major was Mr D. Peters, and .the drum-major was Mr A. Sturroek. The judge of the music was Mr A. Barclay, Wellingtgon; the military judges, Capt. G. McCaskill, Major «T. Mewett, S.S.M. J. Ryan and S.S.M. A. Holmes;' dress and inistruments, Mr A. McSkimming; paces, Lieut. S. WOson; supervisors, Messrs A. MacDonald and J. S. Jenkinson; marshall, Mr C. Voss; timekeepers, Messrs J. Weston Smith and G. Short; reeeption committee, Messrs W. Allan, C. Cronin, F. Duckworth, J. Thompson, T. Rollins, K. Cooper, R. Emmett.
