Mr George C. Lowe

The late Mr. George U. Lowe, of Lyndon road, Hastings, whose death occurred reeently at the age of 69 years, had a long record of public service in Rawke's Bay. He lived at Waipawa before cooxing to Hastings, and Tataiserved on the Hastings Horough Council and the Hapier Harbour Hoard. Born in Gounty Westneath, Ireland, in 1868, the late Mr. Lowe was edueafed at the Anglican school in Moate. He came to New Zealand with hxs parents and landed at Auckland in 188L In 1895 he went into business in •Devonport with his brother, and founded the firm of Lowe Brothers, stilf be' xng carried on by his brother. He came to Hawke's Bay in 1900, and took up farming at Waipawa, four years later, remaining there until 1920, when he moved to Hastings. Mr. Lowe was eieeted to the board of directors of the Heretaunga Dairy Co. in November, 1917, and was chairman of directors from Septeoiber, 1923, until August, 1930. He was elected to the Hastings Borough Council in May, 1925, for a period of two years, and on April 27, 1927, he was re-elected for a further term of .two years. l'n May, 1925, he was elected to the Napier Harbour Board and held office for eight years, Mr. Lowe is survived by his widow and three sons and a daughter— Messrs J. S. Lowe and C. G. Lowe, Takapau, and Mr. D. G. Lowe, and Miss Lois Lowe, of Hastings.
