Interesting Wairoa Case Under New Law YOUTH 1DISMISSED

WAIROA, Jan. 22. An interesting case under new legislation was heard jn jbhe Wairoa Magistrate's Court "when Mr. A. E. Wood, inspector of factories, Napier, sought a penalty of £20 from F. Crothall for employing jn his butcher's Bliop at North Clyde, 4 greater proportion of youths to men tlian is allowed by the law, When asked to pay the same rate to one junior he did so, but later discharged him, it was alleged. A fine of £2 and costs was imposed. Mr. O'Malley, appearing for the defence, said that the employee in question was only dispensed with because he had nojb'carried out his duty. There was a misunderstanding in that no reply was sent to the inspector, the" junior clerk not having attended to her work. He asked for a light penalty under the circumstances. Mr. Wood said that had there been a reply there might not have been any trouble.
