GAY FROCKS AT "LILAC TIME" IN HASTINGS
A delightful presentation of ' ' Lilac Timo"' by J. C. Williamson 's Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company was enjoyed hy a full house at the Hastings Hunicipal - Theatre last evening. Throhghout the performance the frocking - of all the members of the cast was ■ colourf ul and • attraetive and the f rocks worn hy leading ladies were especiall.y charming. The gowas were .in the style of 1828 and the three sisters,", Tilli (Margaret Kelly)j Willi (Nina JRohbins) and Lilli (Helen Langton) appeared first in gowns, alike -of pale "blue peau-de-soie, the wide flounce at the hem showing beneath dainty frilled- pantalets; -Down the centre panel were narrow pink stripes and similar stripes edged their scarves. A lace • bertha finished the corsage • and they wore- pale pink bonnets and carried blue sunshades. In Act II., the two brides, Tilli and Willi,' wore gowns of ivory satin with pointed, skirts, lace berthas arid mittens. Their *veils w.ere arranged With a mantilla" effect, Maids in ricli cream souple ssitin and smaller ones in palest pink georgette attehded them. The third sister, Lilli, wore spring-green taffeta trimmed with ruched frills and finished with pink rosebuds. . Their mother, Mary Yeit-(Evelyn Hall) wore rich fuchsia tinted satin witli gold beading;,.a ehiffon scarf and little lace cap. Maripi (Eileen Kelly) chose rose pink . coin-spotted satin with tafi'eta flowers and frills. Her hat was of pink stitched taffeta and she carried a pink fan. The going-away froeks of Tilli apd Willi were' of lemon satin with a wide flouncc at the hem' and puffed sleeves. Their natural straw hats Were banded with blue ribbon. - i In . Act HL Lilli's gown was of white satin royale, the hem edged with a wide fringe with touches of blue. Her sunshade and bonnet Wero also edged with fringing. Marini's gown was of: green satin with a matehing scarf and sunshade and her hat of green -satin was , finished with a rich green ostrich fqatlier. . Gay . touches of colour were also given by the suits worn by the mon, and the settings throughout were very pleasing.
