VVAiirUiXurS/a.u, tian. ia. The activities of the officer^. of the Waipukurau borough during the past inonth wer© reported upon as follows by the town cierk and engineer, Mr. tL. B, Smart, to the montiily meetiug of the Borough Oouneil:— Water lletieulation. — For the montb of December the centrifugal pump ran 270.53 hours, using 12.174 units of electricity and pumped 5,342,967 gallons of water. For the corresponding period in 1935 the pump ran 242.72 hours, used 10.923 units of electricity and pumped 4,793,700 gallons. In November, 1.934, 6, 200, G00 gallons were pumped. The total quantity of water pumped for the year 1936 was 53,656,000 gallons, as compared with 45,365,000 gallons in 1935 and 45,100,000 gallons in 1934. The' cost of electricity for the year ending December 31, 1936, was £253 12/11. for the year 1935 £219 11/-, and for the year 1934 £216 4/11. Main Highway, Waipu kurau-Itace-course. — The contract for metalling was completed on the 13th inst., a total of 873 cubic yards of red metal being delivered on the road. Olsen's Corner. — Considexingi tho liinited time available, fair progress has been made with the cutting back of this corner Dog-tax Collection. — The collection of the dog tax has been comirt&nced, and while this work is being earried out opportunity is being taken to generally inspect all premises, especially for leakage of water. Licenses. — The following licenses have been issued and fees received:--10 heavy traffic licenses, £48 9/-; 22 motor drivers' licenses, £5 7/6. During the current year 550 drivers5 licenses have been issue'd to date compared with •449 for the same period last year. Rates. — Payment on account of the current year rates amounts to £797 18/11.
