To Cape by Boat

REGULAR SERVICE Posiibility For Obviating 7-MiIe Walk INQUIRY BEING MADE * The possibllity of obviating tlie •even-mile -walk along the beach Xroxa Clifton to the gannet sanctuary at Cape Kidnappers is at preeent being considered, accordiag .to a statement made by a member of the Cape Kidnappers Sanctuary Board this morning. When the gear for the erection of the new shelter hut near the sanctuary was being transported from Napier, a boat yu iised for the puxpose, and it is considered that during the sununer timo a regular service could be maintained for the convenience of ylsitors. The advantages of the euggestion .Were ohvious, he continuecf. Trips. could oasily be arranged at convenient hours with no thought of the tide which at time s prevented aecess from the beach : the whole trip could be made in comfort, and visitors landed at the shelter hut. It is felt that the increase of visitors would in all probability result in a greater number of donations for the upkeep of the sanctuary than are at present received. In addition, the exoursion would be 'made possible for those who are not strong enough to face the walk or bicyde ride along the beach. Some difficulty, however, is present«d in the arrangement for a suitable boat. The use of a fishing boat or any of the commercial vessels at Napier Is prohibited by the fact that they had not the necessary Marine Department licence to carry passengers, and the inaurance against injury of passengers presented yet another difficulty. It is felt, however, that some way of nego.tiatxng the difficulty could be arranged, »s it is anticipated that such an exjeursion would xeceive the support oi all xesidents of the district wlio are intereeted in ihe. sanctuary, and of a gre&t number of visitors and tourists.
