FINE SORTS EASE A LITTLE The values ruling for the opening catalogues at Saturday's wool sale in Napier were fully maintained throughout the offering at an advance of a penny halfpenny on the December rates for coarse wools. A record clearance wa* effected; no more than 30 bales were passed under Ihe hammer, and these were subsequently disposed of . The fftct that low quality was in keen demand accounted for coarse grades making an advance in prices to sell much in the vendors' fayonr, Fine crossbred eased sjightly in value because of Japan's retirement from the market. Among the best selling in the whole sale was the offering of Lincoln wool, which met with widespread competition and made up to the splendid value of 18£d. Japan 's withdrawal from the market was fully compensated for by the increased activity of Bradford, Atmerica and Canada, who were actively in the market. Although there were no frantic scenes among the buyers, the elastic limits of operators enabled the selling to proceed steadily thronghont. The sale was the hest sinqe the boom sale of January, 19S4. Saturay's values for low-quality wools were far in excess pf those at the 1934 sale, hut a comparison of prices for finequality types reveals that there was very little difference in that section.
