Birthday and Engagement Party MISS JOAN TAIT

NORSEWOOD, Jan. Io. •The, Women's Institute ^ Hall, at South Norsewood, was packed to the utncost with guests from every pajt of the district on the occasion of the 21st birthday of Miss Joan Tait, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Tait, of Garfield. The hall had been tastefuily decorated for the event. A fine programme of entertainment was subm.ttod and a very happy timo was spvnt Mr. J. Tait, uncle of the guest of honour, carried out the duties of M:C. to the entire satisfaetiou of the dancers. The dance music was supplied by Mr. W. Te Tau, and extras were contributed by several of the guests. The Monte Carlo and spot waltz were favourite numbers and were won by Mr. J. Bullard and Miss F. Powdrell and by Miss M. Tait and partner respectively. Vocal solos rendered by Mrs. Summerville and Miss I. Edg'iey were greatly appreciated, and both received well-nierited applause. A, very pleasing break in the programme was thc- dispensing of a delicious supper, and an added attraction was the birthday cake, which was made and presented to Miss Tait by Mrs. Mearing, of Garfield. The usual ceremony of cutting the cake by the guest of honour was carried out and each person present was the recipient of a piece. . During ihe evening Mr. Tait announced the engagement of his daughter to Mr. George Olsen, son of Mrs. and the late Mr. Charles Olsen. Mr. Tait wished the young couple every happiness, and Mr. Olsen suitably replied, after which their health was drunk and cheers given. dancing then continuing.
