TRACK OPERATIONS This Morning's Work At Trentham FL00D TIDE G0ES WELL

WELLINGTON, Jan. 16. Though not quite so bad as in the city, the weather was more like winter than summer at Trentham this morning when preparations for the Wellington meeting next week were earried a further stage. There have been no additional arrivals. The feature performance of the morning was again that of rfie Cup topweight, Flood Tide. The rain had ceaeed before work comraenced, but the going on tho trial grass, though not heavy, was very greasy. Essex (L. Nesbitt) and Sunee (B. E. Edwards) started from near the nine furlongs and after. the three-year-old had run across his companion he had a two-lengths lead passing the mile. He Increased this to three lengllis at the half-mile reached from Ihe mile in 51, and though botk horses were stopping at the end he finislied four lengths in tront after requiring 58 for the last half-mile. Essex went better for the slable apprentice, but Sunee is not of much use on sueh a tiacK. Flood (R. G. Stratton) and Ponty (S. Wilson) did the same task, but it was more like a real Cup trial. Passing the inilo Ponty had pulled his way to a lead of two lengths, but Flcod Tide was on terms at six furlongs, slightly ahead at the half-mile and then drew away easily over the last furlong to ftmsh over three lengths in front. Flood Tide's time for the mile was 1.45 2-5, the first half in 52 and the last half in 53 2-5. Ponty was riddeu with hands on tnis occasion and his weak finish would. not mahe him lo'ok. a very hopeful prospect over the Oup distunce. Rona Bay did a serviceable task over seven furlongs, but sbe was at top only -»ver the clofmg stage. Accomplice beat Deficit by a length over five furlongs ' Tun in 1.4 2-5. the last half-mile in 51. Good Sun finislied weli half a length in front of Debham over six furlongs 'n 1.17, the last half-mile in 52 4-5. Sliy was three parts of a length ahead of Geitel at the end of seven furlongs in, 1.33, the last half-mile in 54. Botli horses were stopping near the finish. Shy, though an aeceptor, may not rac* at Trentham, as he has been nominated at Takapuna and may leave eariy fo* the north Arctie King was picked up by Erase at three furlongs and ran five furlongs in 1.7, the last lialf-mile in 53 3-5. First Spec took 1.36 for seven furlongs. Revival did the same journey in 1.34. Windward ran on a shade better than Nightlass over seven furlongs in 1.33, the last half-mile in 54. Laggard started with them, but lived up to his uame. Acceptable beat Fulojoy by three-quarters of a length over five furlongs in 1.4 4-5, the last half-mile in 58 3-5. Raroa finished half a length in front if Mai de Mer at the end of a similar trip in 52 2-5. Boomerang did one of the most useful trials of the morning in beating Ouddle by a length and a-half over ^even furlongs, the last half-mile, after ihey had gone too fast early, taking 54 1-5. ' Oricket, with the insideVq'nning, was half a length ahead of Dareccurt, with Vinco well back after traversinfr si.Nfurlongs in 1.19, the last half-mile in 53 4-5. Sigurd beat Hine Ata by a neck over half a mile in 52 3-5.
