ELECTRIC LIGHT SOCCER
SYDNEY INNOVATION TOURISTS LOSE BY ONE GOAL (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) SYDNEY, June 21. The New Zealand soccer team played a match to-night against Metropolis under electrics light at the Sydney showground. This is the first occasion on which football has been played in the city by artificial light. It was a complete 'novelty for the onlookers,. but the experiment was hardly a. success, there being only a. few hundred spectators, and fog. at times obscuring the player's. Metropolis won by three goals to two. The New Zealand team was : Zuill, Stone, Gerittml, Stenhouse, Chapman, Orab'be, Ives, Ban-ton, Graham, Gtroives, Kay. The Metropolitan team was: Pox, Growhurst. McGillivray, Bl.aek, Stone, Abercrombie. Darke, Edwards, Monagle Evernden, Oiirrig. It was disappointing football throughout. Kav was the only man of the tourists’ 'side to display form. He kicked a brilliant goal from an impossible' angle after a corner kick. Ives on the wing played well hut many of his kicks lacked direction; liis centres often had to go (behind the net. Groves scored New Zealand’s second goal from a scrimmage in front.
Metropolitan was not the hotter team on the night and was rather lucky to win. The tourists’ forwards were re-sponsible-for their defeat by their many fail nuns to follow through when opportunities were available.
