RAMBLER CYCLING CLUB

AMATEUR. ROAD RACE. SEVEN RIDERS COMPETE. Members of the Rambler Amateur Cycling Club yesterday afternoon took part in a road race over a distance of 17* miles from Hawera to Normandy and Okaiawa, along the Seott Eoad and South Road and finishing at the Bank of New Zealand in'. Princes ■Street. There were seven competitors, six of whom raced the full distance. ( Both G. Flint-off (7min. handicap) and B. P. Plintoff (Gfmin. handicap) rode a wonderful race for the greater part of the journey. The latter, who gave his brother only a quarter of a minutes start, soon drew level and the pair went well together until they ‘reached the Tolcaora Hill. B. Plintoff went ahead to win a brilliant finish in '-ISmin. 33sec. , 1 G. Plintoff was second in 52miu. 33 sec., and 11. T. Putt (Ofmin. handicap) third in 52min. Olsec. Those who also started were: J. Bourke (3:}inin. handicap) who completed the distance in 55min. 36*sec., 11. .Mills (2fmi'll. handicap) oamin. 43j sec., W. Jones (6min. handicap) Glinin. 47sec., and 11. O. Forkner (7min. handicap), who did not finish. Club officials who assisted .to control the race were as follow: Starter and judge, Mr ,L. I. Marter; judge, Mr P. Linkhorn; timekeepers, Messrs V. Gcrrand and 'T. Lay.
