LONDON, June 19. The council of till,’a Chamber o.f Shipping has decided not to proceed with the ratioinnilisation proposals owing to there being insufficient support. The Chamber invited shipowners to consider before the council meeting on June- 16 two projected schemes to rationalise cargo tonnage. It was intended by a national plan to stimulate the scrapping of tonnage, and by an international 1 plan to encourage the further laying-up of surplus tonnage. The chamber also aimed at reducing freights to a more remunerative but only moderately profitable level.
