A definition of wha-t constitutes a baths attendant, which has- a bearing on the -status of -beach patrols, has been received at a meeting of the- New Zealand Ctauiueil oif the Royal Life-sav-ing Society from the Clentml Executive, London, which wrote statin-g that the Internat-Lanail: Fell elation Jiad decided, ba-th attendants must be regairdled as professionals. It was decided to adopt the following definition of a bath attendant: “A bath attendant is a person employed at a ssiWimining bath, bathing pool, beach or similar plaices to -attend on -swimmers and who is paid for teaching swimming or diving or giving demon st,rations of either or both.” This, it was added, meant that a bath attendant must receive- money for teaching -swimming o-r giving demonstrations, in addition to attending on bait liens, before he could be regarded a-s i professional. In view of. the fact the interpretation had an important --earring on the beach patrol issue the council- decided to refer the letter tothe New Zealand Swimming Association .
