Ward 7 comprises that part of Canterbury north of the Rakaia River, Marlborough, Nelson and Westland. Ward 3 consists of the eastern Waikato, Thames Valley and Bay of Plenty districts. Ward 4 comprises the North Taranaki district, which includes the counties of Clifton, Inglewood, Taranaki, Stratford, Egmont, Eltham, and Whangamomona. The election is determined by tonnage votes allotted to each company in accordance with the quantity of butter and cheese exported by that company from a factory or factories within the ward during the preceding 12 months ended March 31. A, candidate might receive a majority of suppliers’ votes, but. not necessarily be elected. The candidate who receives the greatest number of valid votes from, the suppliers to the factory or factories of any company is on tiffed to receive all the tonnage votes allotted to that company. If two or more candidates receive an equal number of tonnagfe votes, the candidate is declared to be elected who has the greatest number of suppliers’ votes. The voting strength of factories is determined as follows: One vote for every 20 tons or part thereof up to 5000 tons exported is allotted to factories. After the 500 tons export mark has been reached, every additional. 30 tons carries an extra vote. The voting powers- of cheese factories are computed on the same basis, except that two tons of cheese are computed as one ton of butter.
