POULTRY DEALER’S FRAUDS
TWELA’E MONTHS’ IMPRISON-
MENT.
ORDERS VALUED AT £3OO.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 14
The story of a man who set up in business in Christchurch as the SouitlijeriT Poultry Distributors Ltd., and who secured orders for £3OO and failed in many cases to fulfil the orders for poultry was unfolded before Air Mosley S.M., this morning. The accused, John Francis Burns, aged 29, describee! as a cabinet maker, was sentenced to 12 months in gaol. He pleaded guilty to seven charges affecting buyers at Kaitangata, Neison, Reef ton, Balclutha, Oamaru, Timaru and Christchurch. ’ The police said that instead of sending pullets to a coast buyer after accepting orders, accused forwarded old hens. He had offered through advertisement to sell first-class poultry and orders came from all over New Zealand. Ho fulfilled some orders, but in other cases just pocketed the money. Burns had been in trouble before in a somewhat similar case.
