WAR PENSIONS

DELAYS AVITH APPEALS

TWO BOARDS URGED

AUCKLAND, June 14. The abolition of the AVar Pensions Board and the institution of tAA-o boards to take the place of the present AVar Pensions Appeal Board is advocated by the executive of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Association.

Reporting to the executive at its meeting to-day, the Claims Board said that there were several cases of extreme delay in the determination by the Appeal Board -of applications for pensions. It was felt that, in justice to the claims of many delayed cases, the Claims Board must make such grants as would keep the applicants from want during the waiting period.

One case was cited in which seven months bald elapsed from the time of appealing, and the case had not yet been determined. As the Appeal’ Board had left Auckland, it was probable another three months would elapse before the Case was completed. A modification that might be to the advantage of all would be the disbanding of the ordinary War Pensions Board and the institution of two boards to take the place of the one Pensions Appeal Board, one board acting in the North Island and one in the South Island. It was decided to endorse the Olaims Board’s suggestion regarding the Pensions Boards, and to make representations to the Government on those lines. —“Dominion” Service.
