In connection with the tragedy involving the death of Joseph Wilson and his w r ife evidence of a murderous attack by the husband was found Avhen the body of Mrs Wilson was examined. There was a wound on the back of the head indicating that AVilsoni had attacked her from behind Avhile she was sitting at a sewing machine and then cut her throat with a razor. A piece of sewing was on the machine and the woman apparently had been sitting at the .machine with her back to tbe door. It is understood AVilson had been suffering from insomnia. A search of the premises revealed an axe with the blunt part of -the head covered with blood. From the trail of blood it was evident that the man had faced the mirror and cut his own throat.

The couple from all accounts Av T ere in comfortable circumstances and the house AA-as avoll furnished. The rent had been paid to the date of their death. AVilson had been a well-known member of the AVatersiders’ Union for the past 13 years, but according to neighbours he was of a someAvhat morose disposition. > Ho was a very tall and powerful man while the woman was slight and of average build. The couple had resided at Gisborne for 20 years. Mrs AVilson’s parents reside at Christchurch.
