ARRANGEMENTS AT PATEAi
NAME ENGRAVING DEFERRED.
Further arrangements for the unveiling of the memorial to Turi were made artT Monday’s meeting of the Patea Borough Council a deputation of natives, comprising Messrs V hakarua, Tupito, Maimer a, Pane.nui and J. Taiaroa waiting on the council. Advice was received by letter that His E'xcellenev the Governor-General would be unable to attend the function us both he and Lady Bledisloe had engagements in t-lie Auckland, district right through July. Messrs Wliakarua and Tupito brought forward the matter pt the name of the canoe depicted m the memorial. It was decided that as the Maoris could not agree as to what the name should be, it should not- be eneraved on the canoe for some, years. They stated they wished Sir Apiraua No-ata, the Native Minister, and Mr. Tade to Tomo, M.P., for Western Maori, should be invited to attend.
