ROBBED BY A LITTLE ONE
CHARGE AGAINST CONSPIRATOR. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Dec. 15 11.25 a.m. DON DON, Dec. 14. On the resumption lot the Hobbs case at Bow Street, the prosecuting counsel, Mr. Oiiver, said he would ask ior a committal of Hobbs, on an additional charge of conspiracy to obtain money by menaces. He declared that the second cheque which was identified at Hobbs’ offices by Arthur and Sir Hari Singh’s solicitor and was subsequently burned, wms a dummy. The real cheque was at present in court. It was retained with a view to further blackmailing. Counsel mentioned that Hobbs, on. going to France, was robbed by a sailor, whom he subsequently prosecuted. It must be a great satisfaction to Hobbs to see a humbler rogue imprisoned for theft. Hobbs was remanded till December 19. Bail was refused.
[Hobbs, it will be recalled, was concerned in the bank case in which there was a conspiracy to obtain money from Sir Hari Singh, known as “Mr A.” The aide was concerned in an attempt to obtain a huge sum from the ruler by threat of exposure.]
