CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 4. “This is the worst.case of cruelty to animals we have ever dealt with,” said the Magistrate in inflicting a fi»e of £ls oil Frank Carter, contractor, of St. Martin’s, for beating a mare with a stick and a long-handled shovel. The evidence showed that nearly a month later the horse had a lump behind its head.
