SATURDAY’S MATCHES
EXCELSIOR v. PATEA
The match between the above teams was played at Patea on Saturday, and ended in a draw in favour of the home team, ( McCarthy for the visitors won the fioss, and put Patea in with the hope of a three-pointer coming off. Hopes were dashed early, as a couple of chances went begging which materially altered the complexion of the game. Patea made good use of their opportunities, and put on 170 runs. Hamel was top score with a wellplayed 50. Findlay, who gave a chance in his first over, played solidly and well afterwards in getting 24. Oakes made a lively 26, while Palmer 12, Smith 10, and Tinney 12 also gave great help. Excelsior had an hour and 10 minutes to get the runs, and managed 134 for seven wickets when time was called. /Towards the end the light was very dull, but a greasy ball somewhat handicapped the bowlers. Fulton 36 and Crombie 38 put on 64 together in very quick time. Galvin 22 was going well, too, when he Was howled just on the stroke .of time: For Excelsior, McCarthy did most of the bowling, and captured five for 65. Palmer for Patea also did well in getting five for 31.

STRATFORD v. OKAIAWA
Stratford defeated Okaiawa at Okaiawa, and secured a three-point win. Okaiawa. batting first, made 82. Penny played a good innings of 44 not out, going right through the innings. Cole eight for 31 was in good form with the ball. Stratford made 141 for nine wickets and declared l . Lambert played a fine innings of 63, Claridge 26, Knight 22 not out and Fume 10 also hatting well. Brooke took four wickets for 29. Okaiawa in their second innings made no stand in a had light, and were dismissed for 21, of which Betts made 11. Lambert took six wickets for 13 and Cole three for for 8. WANGANUI RESULTS. United, 108 and 82, beat Collegiate, o2 and 128 (Hussey eight wickets for 40) by 11 runs.
