PEDIGREE JERSEYS.

KAPONGA CLUB. FIFTH ANNUAL BULL FAIR. Approximately 250 Jersey cattlemen and others interested in the breed were present at the Kaponga Jersey Cattle Club’s fifth annual pedigree bull fair, held yesterday in Messrs Newton King Ltd.’s newly erected dairy shed at the Kaponga saleyards. Though bidding was below what might have been expected, considering the high clnrs pcT'griv-s. only five of the bulls winch appealed were passed, and for the sixty-one sold the very satisfactory average of £2O was' realised, while ! three yearling heifers averaged £IS 10s. Mr D. P. F. Malone’s 3-year old bull, Cloverlea Rainbow 12286 (Caius —Rosy Creek Song), which was purchased by Mr P. F. Farm worth, of Kai Iwi, for 37 guineas, tied for the highest price of the day with Mr R. J. Morris’ 3-year-old Thorndale Captain 12144 (Ferndale Captain —Maori Topsy), which fell at the same figure to the bid of the Manaia Demonstration Farm. Mr D. P. F. Malone, president of the club, extended n welcome to the visitors, and expressed the hope that the sale would be a success. He introduced Mr H. E. Abraham, manager of Messrs Newton King Ltd.’s Stratford branch., who was present to formally j open the new building on the occasion j of the club’s first sale within its pre- j cinets. Mr Malone referred to the very useful services which the building would afford, and congratulated the j firm on their enterprise. [ Mr Abraham said that the activities of the Kaponga Jersey Club were responsible in a large measure for the erection of the shed, and explained that the firm had resolved to have the work undertaken mainly as the result of representations made by the club, whose officials had agreed to contribute an an-' nual rental on the occasion of their ! pedigree sales. He spoke of tire a , mirable work being accomplished by the Kaponga Jersey Club and contem- 1 porary-clubs in the province, and said they were to be congratulated on their undoubted success in improving the breed. Referring to the fair, he apologised for the unavoidable absence of Messrs Kirk and Williams, who it was intended should have been associated with Mr W. B. Fearon in the auctioneering duties. He had great pleasure in announcing the buildingopen for the fair. The sale was conducted by Messrs Norvton King Ltd., for whom Mr W. B Fearon weilded the hammer. His services were the subject- of eulogistic comment by the pres.dent of the club’ when, at the conclusion of the fair, Mr Malone, in thanking all who had given it their support, compLinente-d Mr Fearon on the able manner in which lie had performed single-handed duties which were usually shared by at least j . two auctioneers. i Particulars of the sales effected a.p- j e. hereunder, the vendors being .ioivn in alphabetical order: — j HEIFERS.
