CELEBRATIONS TO AMERICA
(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WASHINGTON. Sept. 12. The world fliers were a feature of the Defence Day celebrations to-day, passing over the national capital, followed by another aeroplane containing officials, neivsipen and cameramen. Throughout the country the day Was celebrated by bullions with parades, etc., the object being to keep alive the interest of citizens in defensive preparation in accordance with the recommendation of General Pershing, who retires from active service to-night. Church organisations, as well as many liberal and socialistic societies, adopted resolutions deprecating the appointment of a day for such a celebration on the ground that it tends to foster the spirit of militarism.
